Skoda also comes with a new “electric”: the Skoda iV

With the introduction of the plug-in hybrid drive, Skoda has now clearly increased the attractiveness of its model portfolio. The iV is a bit more expensive than the conventional petrol and diesel models, but its price clearly undercuts the models of competitors such as the Peugeot 508 SW Hybrid.

The combustion engine is designed as a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbo and combined with a 113 hp electric motor and a 13 kWh battery. The charging process takes place via a connection that is neatly hidden behind the radiator grille. Charging the battery via a 3.6 kW wallbox takes about three hours and 30 minutes. Together, the two systems offer a powerful 215 hp. That is a little less than one of the closest competitors of this vehicle, the Peugeot 508 Hybrid, although the 0 to 100 kilometers acceleration of the Skoda is half a second faster than that of the 508 at 7.8 seconds.

The transition from electric to gasoline operation is also more elegant with the iV than with the competitor. While the Peugoet feels a bit jerky when switching between the drive types, the Skoda reacts very smoothly. The subtle indication that something has changed appears as a control lamp that flashes in the tachometer area on the digital display. Otherwise the engine only mumbles in the background and the vibrations are minimal.

It is possible to choose from a variety of driving modes in order to get the most out of the hybrid systems. The iV uses E mode by default. A full charge of the battery promises just over 32 km of fully electric range, while the Hybrid and Sport modes offer the choice between efficiency and performance.

While the sport modes of other manufacturers often only show minor changes in driving behavior, the iV from Skoda clearly changes its character here. It is equipped with adaptive dampers as standard. In the standard setting, the vehicle appears rather soft and springy. This is compounded by the fact that the iV is heavier than the traditional combustion variants.

Overall, the Skoda iV impresses with its excellent driving characteristics. The interior design is logically structured (albeit a bit simple) and the trunk offers a sufficient load volume of 510 liters.

A so-called vehicle elevation set from SPACCER® is also available for the Skoda iV. This optional extension set not only provides a visually interesting facelift, but also improves ground clearance and ease of entry. A patented damping system also significantly reduces the vehicle's driving and rolling noise. The vehicle elevation sets from SPACCER® are of course approved by TÜV and include detailed and easy-to-understand installation instructions on delivery.
