Lotus Cars is a British manufacturer of sports cars in Hethel in Norwich. The company was founded in 1947 by racing driver Colin Chapman. First they built specialcars based on the Austin 7. In racing the company celebrated a number of successes. 1996 Lotus Cars was acquired by the Malaysian company Proton. Known models are the Lotus Elan, the Lotus Evora, the Lotus Elise. 2011 Lotus showed the ethos a vehicle with hybrid drive.
