Tesla Motors Inc. is an American company that designs and builds electric vehicles. The company was founded in Palo Alto, California in 2003. The name comes from the American physicist and inventor Nikola Tesla. The production of the two-seater electric sports car Tesla Roadster began in 2008. Later an electrically driven premium sedan and the Model S was added. Tesla is supported by other automobile manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and Toyota, technically and financially. In 2010 the company went public. Profit could not be achieved until now.
